part four - NORWAY/SWEDEN/DENMARK fieldtrip

Today was our first day in Oslo! It was fun to be back to a familiar place (even though I was only here for two days before). These next three days are packed with seeing buildings. We’re starting at 8 or 8:30 every day just to get to all the places before they close. You will have to bear with me because this next section is going to be architecture heavy. We are seeing some really cool stuff though!!

After a great night’s sleep ( I was really tired yesterday) we took off to the Viking Museum to start the day. It was pretty cool to see the ships so well preserved (Greg, they were nothing like the Vasa though). We all attempted to draw the ships. The forms they created, and how well they were made were both really striking features.

We then took off to Frogner’s Park for lunch and some sculpture viewing. This was a large park, similar to Milles Garden in Stockholm that had a collection of works from a single person. Frogner is one of Norway’s most famous sculptures who was know for his ability to capture life. The sculptures where very fun, I felt like I was visiting someone’s memory of life moments.

After lunch we did museums the rest of the day. We saw the architecture museum, which is the first of the Sverre Fehn buildings we will be seeing (which is fun because we are moving into seeing more modern architecture than before). He did the little addition to the architecture museum. The bathroom was also one of the coolest bathrooms I've been in on the trip.

We also went to the design museum, but it was kind of a bust. Not much there to see.

A group of us found an Indian restaurant for dinner that was a great price and a great meal. After dinner we met up with everyone again to walk downtown and see some more buildings. We are only spending a three days in Oslo so they are packing it in! We walked by the City Hall, the Palace, and a few other buildings I don’t remember the names of (I’m really soaking it in today). I’m exhausted now though, and we start again tomorrow at 8 AM!  It’s fun to be busy!
